    PILLING & ABRASION

    What is pilling?

Pilling is where small balls may appear all across the jersey fabric. This is an indication of a faulty or defective fabric. Please note if these small balls appear in one spot only this is caused by abrasion (see below).

All of our fabrics are tested for pilling and abrasion levels. They are tested by a piece of machinery that rubs the fabric 100x to see if any balls occur. Any fabric that is below our quality control standards is rejected before being made into garments.

If you are concerned with pilling on any of your Leina Broughton garments please email us immediately at shop@leinabroughton.com.au with the subject title Pilling.

    What is abrasion?

Abrasion is where small balls may appear in a specific spot of your garment. This is generally an indication that something has been rubbing against that spot, generally a belt, bag or jewellery. Please note if these small balls appear all over the fabric it is pilling (see above).

Small balls have appeared on my garment what is this?

If the balls appear all over your garment then this is known as pilling which relates to a faulty fabric. If the balls appear in one specific spot on your garment this is abrasion caused by something rubbing against your garment.

If you are concerned with any pilling or abrasion on any of your Leina Broughton garments please email us immediately at shop@leinabroughton.com.au with the subject title Pilling/Abrasion.

    Why do jersey fabrics pill?

All fabrics will pill at some stage, after multiple wears. Due to how jersey fabrics are made (knitting process) and the very fine filament yarns used they can be more susceptible to pilling or abrasion.

Please note, pilling is where small balls occur all over the fabric and relate to a faulty fabric. Abrasion occurs in a specific spot and is due to something rubbing repetitively against your garment (eg bag, belt, accessories).

How do I get rid of pilling/abrasion balls?

There are multiple devices available on the market to remove small abrasion balls which may occur. PLEASE USE CARE. These devices need to be used delicately as they may result in creating a hole in your garment.
