For the first time this year we collaborated with local artist, Little Branches, to develop three of our EXCLUSIVE prints. I met Maree at Melbourne Cup last year when I spotted her wearing our Stella dress in peony. The connection was instant, including through name as Maree is also my middle name, even same spelling!. Another universe connection, because honestly, that's how we roll here at LB-HQ...
This was also the first time that I have ever seen a stranger out and about in one of my dresses, I can't even explain what that felt like... Admittedly after a few champagnes, but I literally just about burst!
In the months before MC, I had started developing our own prints in-house, learning new techniques with in the Adobe platforms and stretching my creative brain. Although I am in this creative suite on a daily basis, applying it into a fabric print repeat was a new application and it felt incredibly fortuitous to meet Maree that day.
Already being a customer meant that Maree understood our design aesthetic and end use. It turns out that one of the most surprising parts of our business is the connections we are able to make with our customers each and every day. Maree has an absolutely beautiful design aesthetic and very quickly we were able to lock in some immediate prints that needed to go into sampling asap.
How the process works;
We work with a very lean approach which means we also keep lead times incredibly tight so we are able to deliver the most season appropriate designs for you. I start off the process by looking at the delivery time and what is inspiring me in look and feel. I had been pinning splash and marble prints so this was definitely the direction.
From there Maree went through her library of work in progress vectors (image file type) to see if there was a common starting ground. The splash (ink and gunmetal) was a perfect starting point. From there I played with season relevant colour backgrounds and adjusted the scale for each.
Following print development we submit these to our fabric printers who send back strike-offs for us to approve fabric base, colour, scale and finish and the garment sample and production process begins.
For the love of collaborations with amazing women. Thank you Maree! Best, Leina xx
